911 CENTER RECEIVED A CALL REGARDING A CHILD NOT BREATHING/POSSIBLE DROWNING

On Monday September 3, 2018, at 3:45 A.M. the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) 911 center received a call regarding a child not breathing/possible drowning at 3363 Little Pine Dr. Overgaard Arizona. Heber Overgaard Fire responded along with NCSO Deputies. Fire personnel transported the victim Donavon to Summit Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Deputies learned the child possibly had a history of seizure like episodes. During the night, Donavon vomited which was cause for Rebecca Savage (Mother of the child) to give Donavon a bath. Rebecca Savage placed Donavon in the bath while she tended to the dirty bedding. When Rebecca returned to the bath, Donavon was in the water and unresponsive. Deputies interviewed Curtis Harvey, step father to Donavan at the residence as to the circumstances of the death of Donavon. Rebecca Savage had accompanied Donavan to the hospital.

Rebecca Savage was interviewed at Summit Hospital as to the circumstances surrounding the incident. NCSO Criminal Investigations along with an investigator from the Navajo County Attorney’s Office responded to continue the investigation surrounding Donavan’s death. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow and this is an active investigation with the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff “KC” Clark remarked that “this incident is a tragic reminder that we cannot leave child unattended around or in water even for a second”.
